Formerly the Musée des Beaux-Arts with collections of African and Oceanic art and the history of the local area, from geological times, through prehistoric humans to the Middle Ages.
It has two collections which it describes as being of ‘international importance’. One is a collection of African and Oceanic (that is from the Pacific islands and Australia) art, including masks, sculptures and other works. It also contains items from North Africa – the Maghreb – and is considered one of the most important French collections of its kind.
